The Tasaday: Modern Cavemen?

From TheFreeDictionary.com

First touted in 1971 as a tribe that had lived in isolation on the Philippine island of Mindanao since the Stone Age, the Tasaday were later declared a hoax perpetrated by Philippine government official Manuel Elizalde. His claim was challenged in the 80s by Swiss anthropologist and journalist Oswald Iten, whose investigation of the two dozen Tasaday concluded that they were really members of known local tribes living a staged Stone Age lifestyle. How might Elizalde have profited from the hoax?

Where Are They Now?

In the 70's and early 80's, there were more US tv shows airing in the Philippines than locally-produced shows. Hence, I grew up watching US tv shows like Family, Dallas, Happy Days, Streets of San Francisco, Hawaii 5-0, Kojak, and many others.

I used to wonder what happened to the actors and actresses in those shows and from some movies since I don't get to hear of them anymore. Thanks to the internet, my curiosity has been appeased. There are some websites focused on the questions, "Where are they now?" and "Whatever happened to...?"

Vodka Sunrise

Vodka Sunrise is a cocktail composed of:
  • 3 parts Vodka
  • 6 parts orange juice
  • 1 part Grenadine syrup
How to prepare Vodka Sunrise:
  • Mix Vodka and orange juice in a glass with ice.
  • Add Grenadine syrup. Do not stir. Let the syrup sink to the bottom of the glass.
  • Garnish with lemon and serve.
If it reminds you of the cocktail, Tequila Sunrise, you're right. The preparation is the same as Tequila Sunrise, but Vodka is used instead of Tequila.

Ergo, if you use Tequila, then it's called Tequila Sunrise. If you use Vodka, then it's Vodka Sunrise. :p

Either case, it is a delicious drink.

Do you know why it's called Tequila (or Vodka) Sunrise? It is because of the Grenadine which settles at the bottom of the glass. The color combination resembles that of a sunrise.

After the New7Wonders of the World, there is another campaign to come up with the New7Wonders of Nature.

This is the link to the live ranking of the top 77 official nominees.

Of course, I am rooting for the three nominated sites found in the Philippines:

Tubbataha Reef

Chocolate Hills in Bohol

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River (Undergorund River) in Palawan

The Seven Wonders of the World

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are the following:

Great Pyramid of Giza
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus

Lighthouse of Alexandria

Since only the Pyramid of Giza in Egypt is left standing to this day, there was a campaign to come up with the New 7 Wonders of the World. (click the link to see the list)
